Patna, Jan. 1: The 13th Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal has been ranked second among the SSB battalions in the country for its extraordinary performance along the 110km stretch of India-Nepal border in Champaran and demonstrating outstanding courage and wisdom on duty. SSB commandant Raj Singh Shekhawat announced this at a function organised on the eve of the 8th Raising Day of the battalion at its Piprakothi headquarters. A variety of games, cultural programmes, weapon striping and dog show were held. The day was marked by songs, bhajans and dances from Maharashtra, Assam, Bhojpur, Bengal, Nepal, Manipur and Punjab, both by the male and female SSB personnel.

Cricket win

Patna: The Muzaffarpur cricket team on Friday defeated the Samastipur cricket team in the 10th state-level cricket match for disabled players organised by Bihar Cricket Association for the Disabled in Madhubani. The tournament was held between December 25 and 31. Thirty-six districts took part in the tournament and more than 420 differently-abled players took part in it. The Muzaffarpur team today was felicitated in Patna by Bihar Cricket Association for the Disabled secretary R.N. Singh. Batting first, the Muzaffarpur team scored 70 runs in 20 overs, while the Samastipur team could score only 65 runs in as many overs.

Guard killed

Rourkela: A guard of a goods train died instantly on being hit by another goods train at Barsuan railway station, about 130km from here on Saturday, railway sources said. The guard, Niraj Kumar Das (25), a resident of Bihar, was checking the brake power when another train rammed him while he was crossing the track. The body was taken to Bandamunda and handed over to his family members after post-mortem, they said.
