Patna: Patna University Hindi department students demonstrated on the university campus on Monday demanding the release of Rupam Pathak, who stabbed Purnea MLA Raj Kishore Kesari on January 4. upam was a student of the university and had submitted her PhD thesis on ‘Hindi gazal ka safarnama: Bhartendu Harish Chanra se Dushyant Kumar tak’ in November 2010. The students demanded Rupam’s early release.

Admission

Patna: The admission process for the Patna University BEd course — classes for which are scheduled to begin on January 12 — ended on Monday, with 65 out of 90 seats at Patna Training College and 89 out of 120 seats at Women’s Training College being filled. The admissions process started on January 1 but could not be completed because various students’ bodies protested the anomalies in the entrance process. As many seats are still vacant, a second list will be published soon, said a source.

Arrest

Patna: Nineteen criminals of three gangs, all of them with previous criminal records, were arrested on Monday. A police source said the gangs were planning criminal activities in the state capital. A large cache of arms, including a dozen pistols and 28 cartridges, has been recovered.

Festival

Patna: Patna CMS Vatavaran and Sakar Foundation started four-day festival ‘Patna CMS: Vatavaran Festival’ on AN College premises. Films based on environment would be showcased at the festival.

Fair

Patna: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi has called for reports about the statewide krishi mela held on Monday for distribution of loans and Kisan Credit Cards to the farmers. He said action would be initiated against bankers found indulging in irregarities in the farmers’ loans. He added in Masauri sub-division alone over Rs 5.97 crore has been distributed among 1,134 beneficiaries. Modi also appealed to the people to help the government in its fight against corruption.
