Disease combat plan

Patna: The health department on Thursday added another number, 0612- 2215505, to the earlier helpline (0612- 2217608) to help people suffering from acute encephalitis syndrome.

Control rooms in the 10 most affected districts also became functional on Thursday. Mobile parties comprising an ambulance, a medical officer, paramedical staff and essential medicines were sent out to affected blocks of these districts to identify and treat suspected patients and to refer them to bigger hospitals.

Man shot

Araria: A 45-year-old man was shot dead and two others were critically injured in firing during a marriage ceremony at Parewada village under Forbesganj police station late on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Sagam Lal Bahardar. A case of murder has been registered under Forbesganj police station against unknown persons.

Results

Patna: The results of Secondary Teachers Eligibility Test, conducted by Bihar School of Examination Board, were announced on Thursday. ltogether 17,624 candidates cleared the test.

Salary nod

Patna: The education department on Thursday approved Rs 331.40 crore for providing March-May salaries to teachers and employees of universities in the state. For Patna University, Rs 23.19 crore was approved, while Magadh University would get Rs 84.03 crore.

Delhi visit

Patna: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who heads the empowered committee of finance ministers of states on goods and services tax, on Thursday left for Delhi to present the state’s case before the standing committee of Parliament.

Old funds

Patna: The deputy development commissioner has written letters to block development officers of three blocks, Barh, Daniyawan and Pandarak, to recover unutilised funds with interest from panchayat office-bearers, within 15 days.

Boys saved

Bhagalpur: Railway police personnel on Thursday rescued 11 boys from Bhagalpur-Surat Express while they were being taken to Surat with fake job promise. Three middlemen were arrested.
