Growth in tax revenue

Patna: Bihar recorded a 20 per cent growth in the collection of commercial taxes in the 2010-11 fiscal, which ended on March 31. The figure of total tax collection in 2010-11 stood at Rs 6,666 crore, which was Rs 1,311 crore more than the total tax collected by the commercial taxes department last fiscal (2009-10).he fact came to light during the review meeting of commercial taxes department on Monday, chaired by deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi.

Cook death

Patna: Ranjit Kumar, a 19-year-old boy working as a cook in a guest house, died under mysterious circumstances on Monday morning. His family has alleged that he was murdered. He was found hanging.

Court order

Patna: A bench of Justice Ajay K. Tripathi of the high court on Monday directed the authorities concerned to submit original documents pertaining to the selection of the principal of BN College of Patna University. Counsel Abhinav Srivastava submitted Raj Kishore Prasad, an electronics teacher at BRA Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, cannot be appointed as principal as there is no provision of electronics in Patna University.

Cancellation

Patna: The sociology paper of final year graduation examination was cancelled on Monday as questions were out of the syllabus. The decision to cancel the examination was taken by the examination controller, DN Sharma.

Arrest

Patna: The Gandhi Maidan police on Monday arrested three girls for indulging in unfair means during the graduation examination conducted by Nalanda Open University. The students were found cheating and copying answers.

Meet

Patna: The Inner Wheel Club of Patna organised an inter-city district meet, Chitali, at its office at Dakbungalow. More than 100 members from all over Bihar and Jharkhand attended the grand function in saris in different colours.

Condemn

Patna: Rashtriya Pragati Party has condemned the decision of the Union government to increase the MP fund from Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore.
