Five die as boat capsizes

Patna, June 30: Five persons died when a boat ferrying them capsized in the Kosi river near Fulaut village in Madhepura district today. he bodies of all the deceased, who belonged to Dehru Manjora village under Bihariganj police station, have been fished out. The accident occurred when the victims, members of a wedding party, were crossing the river in a country boat. Eight others on the boat swam to safety. They have been admitted to a government hospital.

Mukhiya son

Patna: Indu Bhushan, the son of slain Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeshwar Singh “Mukhiya”, on Saturday organised a meeting with the farming community and said he would start a farmers’ rally from Kaimur on July 4.

Rally

Patna: Chief general manager of State Bank of India, Patna circle, Jeevandas Narayan on Saturday flagged off a “Paryavaran Chetna Rally” to create awareness among people on noise pollution. Over 700 employees took part in the rally organised on the occasion of the bank’s foundation day.

Health camp

Patna: Patliputra branch of Indian Dental Association and Lion’s Vision Centre jointly organised a free eye and dental check up camp at St Michael’s High School on Saturday. Dr Amlesh Kumar, the organising secretary of the programme, said about 200 students were checked for their dental problems. Free samples of toothbrushes and pastes were distributed among the students.

Demand

Patna: A Bihar Chamber of Commerce delegation led by its president O.P. Sah met Bihar State Electricity Board chairman P.K. Rai and senior officials and demanded that there should not be any load-shedding or interruptions, as the state was receiving adequate power supply.

Arrest

Sasaram: CPI(Maoist) sub-zonal commander Suresh Paswan was arrested in a joint operation by the Central Reserve Police Force and district police from Nawadih village in Rohtas district late on Friday night.

Farewell

Patna: A farewell programme was organised on the occasion of retirement of Manoje Nath, a 1973-batch IPS officer, on Saturday after serving the state for almost 40 years. He was the director-general of home guards and fire services. .

Lynch

Hajipur: One Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Sultanpur Mohammadpur locality of Hajipur, was beaten to death by members of a wedding party in an area under Industrial police station in Vaishali district late on Friday night. The police said the incident was a fallout of a dispute over a Bhojpuri song by he band party.
