Election official peeved

Patna: State election commissioner J.K. Dutta has shot off a letter to chief secretary Anup Mukherjee drawing his attention towards allotment of his official quarter located on Desh Ratna Marg to water resources minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary. uoting article 243 K(2) of the Constitution of India, Dutta said it was not proper to ask him to vacate the quarter when the election process is underway. Dutta’s tenure will end on June 8.

Kidnap bid

Patna: Sudhir Gupta and Shankar Rai, both managers with B-4 Private Security Agency were abducted at gunpoint from Kankerbagh police station area on Wednesday afternoon before being set free in the evening.

Storm

Patna: Residents were caught unawares when a storm hit the city around 8pm on Wednesday.

Transfer

Patna: The state government on Wednesday transferred Virendra Prasad Yadav, director of tourism, as new district magistrate (DM) of Sheikhpura, whereas Sheikhpura DM Dharmendra Singh would be the new DM of Khagaria. V.K. Verma, the principal secretary of social welfare department has been made the principal secretary of mines and geology department. Amitabh Verma would be the new principal secretary of social welfare department. N. Vijaylakshmi, secretary, social welfare department, would be the managing director of Bihar State Women’s Development Corporation.

Appointments

Patna: The state government on Wednesday appointed Kumar Rajesh Chandra, who was earlier posted with the Special Protection Group in New Delhi, as inspector-general (IG), security at the state police headquarters. He returned from central deputation recently. R.S. Bhatti has been given additional charge of IG, Patna, Praveen Vashishtha of Bhagalpur zone and Ravindra Kumar of IG (headquarters).

Power charge

Patna: Bihar State Electricity Board spokesman H.R. Pandey on Wednesday said the board would now charge from advertisers for using its walls and infrastructure.

HC dismissal

Patna: Patna High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by Hemant Kumar seeking a CBI probe in to the alleged rape of Rupam Pathak who knifed Purnea BJP legislator Rajkishore Keshari in January.

Directive

Patna: Patna High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to constitute a committee and hold discussion with the chancellor appointed committee headed by his principal secretary within a month on the issue of rationalisation. The court passed the direction on a public interest litigation filed by Vinay Kumar Singh seeking filling of vacant posts in the universities.

Death

Patna: An eight-year-old boy died after being electrocuted on Wednesday in Goreatoli area under Kotwali police station. The incident took place at around 11 am, the police said.

Donation

Chhapra: The Chhapra branch of Ramakrishna Mission was donated a mobile medical van by the India Oil Corporation (IOC) in a function on Wednesday.

Fine slapped

Chhapra: Saran district consumer forum on Wednesday slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Manjhi post office for causing financial loss, and mental and physical harassment to a consumer of Manjhi Block.

Late FIR

Patna: An FIR was lodged by one Prabhakar Pandey on Wednesday. Criminals had got into his house and decamped with jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh besides Rs 13,500 on May 14.

Patna: Prem Kumar, minister for urban development department on Wednesday surveyed the ongoing drainage cleaning work in Patna Municipal Corporation area. He also gave instructions for immediate action for improving the poor condition of Bakarganj canal due to encroachment
