Nitish holds review

Patna, May 21: Chief minister Nitish Kumar held a review meeting on Saturday with regard to preparations of Planning Commission’s regional conference scheduled on May 30 and 31. hief ministers of Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Bihar would participate in the conference, which would be attended by Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and its eight members.

Inauguration

Patna: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Saturday inaugurated the trading of sugar on National Spot Exchange’s pan India electronic platform from Patna.

Arrest

Patna: Officers of the vigilance investigation bureau caught Sabir Ahmad, a clerk in the office of Bhagalpur municipality, red-handed while he was taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 from one Pervez Alam for processing a file related to self-employment scheme for the urban poor.

Tribute

Patna: Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Mehboob Ali Quaiser on Saturday led his partymen in paying tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 20th death anniversary at Sadaqat Ashram.

Party attack

Patna: State JD (U) chief spokesman and MLC Sanjay Singh on Saturday criticised RJD and its leadership for raising the issue of law and order and corruption as corruption had become synonymous with the RJD regime when scams involving fodder, bitumen and degrees occurred apart from the kidnapping industry.

Kahalgaon (Bhagalpur): A three-day medical conference of National Thermal Power Corporation was organised at Sujata auditorium of Kahalgaon unit on Saturday.

Protest

Gopalganj: Agitated Surahia villagers on Saturday demonstrated in front of Sidhwalia police station with the corpse of a man who died in a clash between two parties. The villagers alleged that the police did not implement sections 302 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code against the opponent party.

Conference

Gaya: A daylong conference of Bihar Entrepreneurs Network was organised at Bodhgaya on Saturday. The conference witnessed discussions on opportunities and the challenges in real estate, education, healthcare, energy and governance followed by a workshop on “Starting up business in Bihar”.

Raid

Gopalganj: Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday conducted a raid at Jalalpur village under Kuchaikot police station and nabbed four persons in connection with the theft of ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh from the house of a railway engineer Kunal Gupta. The arrested persons are Sunil Singh, Kamlesh Pathak, Akhilesh Pathak and Pramod Singh.

Blood camp

Motihari: Teachers and employees of the local unit of Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Secondary School organised a blood camp on Rajiv Gandhi’s 20th death anniversary and termed the occasion as Martyr’s Day on Saturday.
