Patna: A high court bench of Justice V.N. Sinha on Friday reserved the petition filed by Mahesh Prasad Singh challenging the election of actor-turned-politician MP from Patna Sahib, Shatrughan Sinha. ingh prayed for setting aside the MP’s election on the ground that Singh’s nomination paper was wrongly rejected by the returning officer.

HC directive

Patna: A high court bench of Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan on Friday directed the education department’s principal secretary and the higher education department’s director to appear in court on August 28 for non-payment of salary and other dues of teachers of KBS College, Khagaria.

Research

Gaya: Magadh University professor of chemistry Ranjit Kumar Verma of Gaya will present his research papers related to heat effects on certain acids and gels at the five-day 15th international thermal analysis congress beginning on August 20 at Osaka in Japan. The conference is being organised by International Confederation for Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry.

SBI meet

Patna: State Bank of India’s Patna secretariat branch on Friday organised a pensioners’ meet on the branch premises and solicited suggestions from participants.

Custody order

Ara: The court of chief judicial magistrate, Ara, P.K. Ojha, on Friday ordered to take Hareram Pandey, one of the accused in the Brahmeshwar Singh ‘Mukhiya’ murder case, in judicial custody for 14 days.

Loan forgery

Gaya: The manager of ICICI Bank in Gaya lodged a named FIR on Thursday at the civil lines police station alleging that 13 people managed to get gold loan worth around Rs 1.12 crore by mortgaging duplicate gold. One Manoj Verma working as appraiser (who checks purity of gold) was arrested.

Land protest

Buxar: Farmers staged a dharna and disrupted traffic on NH-84 for about five hours on Friday protesting against proposed acquisition of their land by the government for construction of a four-lane road on the highway. he blockade was removed after senior government officials assured them that their demands would be conveyed to the state government.
