Purnea bypoll hopeful

Patna: Kiran Keshari, the widow of slain BJP legislator Rajkishore Keshari, would be the BJP candidate for Assembly bypoll for the Purnea seat. he BJP state unit released a press note in this regard on Sunday. Votes for the bypoll would be cast on June 25.

Litchi fest

Motihari: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi would inaugurate the three-day Litchipuram Utsav 2011 at Mehsi in East Champaran district on Monday. Apart from cultural programmes, experts would share views at workshops on improving litchi production. Mehsi was given the nickname of Litchipuram in 2003 by then district magistrate of East Champaran S. Shiva Kumar.

Protest

Patna: Youth Congress members, led by state unit president Lallan Kumar, staged a protest march against police firing in Araria, on Sunday. Protesters also burnt the effigy of chief minister Nitish Kumar. Later, the Youth Congress members also submitted a memorandum to Governor Devanand Konwar demanding a judicial inquiry into the incident.

Missing found

Patna: Jakkanpur police recovered Mithilesh Choudhary, who was allegedly abducted from Patna on May 31, from Goa on Sunday.

Contraband

Patna: Two persons were arrested and 44kg ganja worth Rs 25,000 seized from Mithapur bus stand under Jakkanpur police station on Sunday.

Maoist arrests

Patna: Two Maoists were arrested and 10 countrymade rifles, 150 rounds of ammunition, 10 police uniforms and Naxalite literature were seized during a raid at Sonepura village in Aurangabad district on Sunday. In another operation, Kaimur police arrested a Naxalite from Dehri in Rohtas district.

Flight delay

Patna: The IndiGo Patna-Delhi afternoon flight was delayed on Sunday by 15 minutes because the pilot called the flight engineer inside the aircraft after all the passengers had boarded and doors were closed.
