Rains return to state

Patna: After a break of three days, monsoon returned on Sunday. Patna Met department recorded 0.8mm rain in the evening. A trough line of monsoon, extending from Rajasthan to the Northeastern states brought the showers.oderate to heavy rain is expected at various places in the state, said Animesh Chanda, director, Patna Met department.

Suicide

Patna: Lalgi Tola resident Rahul, 22, committed suicide by consuming sulphus at his home under Gandhi Maidan police station. He was rushed to Kurji Holy Family Hospital, where he died in the course of treatment. Police said a failed love affair could have been the motive behind the suicide.

Mishap

Hajipur: Mahnar BJP MLA Achutanand and five others were injured on Sunday when a speeding truck hit the MLA’s car on the Hajipur-Mahnar road under the Ganga Bridge police station in Vaishali district. Achutanand was rushed to the Sadar hospital.

Arrests

Patna: Ten girls and seven boys were arrested on Sunday for being involved in flesh trade after raids were conducted at eight beauty parlours. The police had a tip-off that the parlours at Ashiana Tower, Twin Tower and Bhattacharya Road were involved in flesh trade.

Lecture

Patna: Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library and Kashi Prasad Jayaswal Research Institute on Sunday organised a special lecture on the heritage of Bihar. In his the keynote address, Prabuddha Biswas spoke at length on the concept of cantonment.

Marathon

Patna: Human resource development minister P.K. Shahi flagged off the marathon organised by Alphabets, a charitable organisation, on Sunday from JP roundabout. Shiv Shastri of Begusarai won the race.

Protest

Patna: Students of College of Arts and Crafts, Patna, took out a march on Sunday to protest against the move of the state government to transfer the institute from Patna University to Aryabhatt Knowledge University.

Rebel held

Patna: A self-proclaimed sub-zonal commander of the CPI (Maoist) Sudarshan Bhuyian, alias, Guptaji was arrested from Pathra village under Dhibra police station in Aurangab ad district. Deputy superintendent of police P.N. Sahu said Bhuyian was invovled in several incidents in Rohtas, Aurangabad and Gaya districts.

Workshop

Patna: Hitaishi Happiness Home, a mental healthcare centre, organised a workshop on drug abuse and illicit trafficking on its premise on Sunday to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse.
