PIL turned down

Patna: A division bench of justices S.K. Katriar and A. Amanullah of Patna High Court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL filed by S.N. Upadhyaya challenging the appointment of Ashok Choudhary as chief information commissioner of Bihar State Information Commission. he petitioner submitted that Choudhary’s appointment was made in violation of the provisions of the constitution.

Patna: Bihar Jharkhand Rajya Vidyut Parishad Field Kamgar Union’s general secretary Amrendra Mishra on Tuesday termed as unfortunate the cabinet’s approval for bifurcating the state electricity board into five companies. Mishra said the decision was anti-employee and anti-consumer as it would lead increase in the electricity tariff exorbitantly.

Patna: State RJD president Ram Chandra Purbey on Tuesday said that party president Lalu Prasad would spearhead a day-long sit-in at JP Roundabout on August 6to protest against the Nitish government’s failure on all fronts, media in-charge Randhir Yadav said in a release. The Nitish government has been involved in scams like Biada land allotment, AC-DC bills besides being a complete failure to check corruption, pricerise and police firing at Forbesganj, Purbey said.

Dismissal

Patna: DGP Neel Mani has ordered the dismissal of a police constable Brij Bihari Rai for opening fire at Hajipur railway station in a drunken state on Tuesday. Rai, who was posted at Siwan, opened fire after an altercation with a woman, causing injuries to a passenger identified as Babu Jaan.

Patna: Patna Commissioner K.P. Ramaiah on Tuesday held a meeting along with the additional magistrates and sub-divisional officers of all six districts of the division to review the progress of distribution of plots to the landless Mahadalit families.
