Shops gutted

Patna: Three shops selling cotton were burnt early on Wednesday morning owing to a suspected short-circuit in the Jakkanpur area. ources said property, valued at around Rs 3 lakh was destroyed. At least four fire tenders were pressed into service and it took almost an hour-and-a-half to douse the flames. No casualty or injuries were reported.

Dupe cuffs

Patna: One Ramesh Patel was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly duping many persons of several lakhs. Sources said there were more than than two dozen cases lodged against him.

Stick for BDOs

Patna: Rural development minister Nitish Mishra on Wednesday, said strict action has been taken against block development officers (BDOs) for irregularities in Indira Awas Yojana. Speaking on the last day of the winter session at Bihar Legislative Assembly, he said six BDOs have been suspended and four have been punished. He added that action has been taken against 223 BDOs across the state.

Patna: Two ATMs of UCO Bank were inaugurated on Wednesday at Bodhgaya and Buniyadganj in Gaya district.

Two shot at

Darbhanga: Two traders, Jayant Kumar Panjiar and Promod Kumar Mahato, were injured in firing over an alleged business dispute at Gandhi Chowk on Wednesday. They were admitted to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital. According to police, Ranjan Kumar, another trader, accompanied by Debu Kumar and Dharmendra Kumar, fired at them.
