Power cut alert

Patna: Several areas in Patna — Gai Ghat, Tripolia, Biscomaun, Sultanganj, Alamganj, Paschim Darwaja, City Chowk, Maharajganj, Mangal Talab, Vachaspati Nagar, Dargah Road, Station Road, Jhauganj, Khajekalan, NMCH Chowk, Malsalami, Sudarshan Path, Marufganj, Naya Azimabad Colony, Alka Colony, Tikiya Toli — would face power cut for six hours on Sunday.ecessary maintenance of 33KV feeders of NMCH, Minabazar and City circles would be done from 11am on Sunday, said Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd deputy general manager (PR) H.R. Pandey.

Strike threat

Patna: Bihar Engineering Services Association on Friday threatened to go on an indefinite strike if its demands were not met. Before going on strike, the association would organise “abhiyanta mahasamagam” at Abhiyanta Bhavan, Boring Road, on Sunday.

Divine service

Patna: Ram Mohan Roy Seminary School on Friday celebrated 183rd Maghotsava, a daylong ceremony of faith in divine grace, in the prayer hall of Seminary, Khazanchi Road, by local Brahmo Samaj. Acharya Sumanta Niyogi conducted the service (picture by Nagendra Kumar Singh).

PNB camp

Patna: Punjab National Bank organised a mega debt clearance settlement camp on Friday at Institute of Engineering near R-Block in Patna. About Rs 1.15 crore of 80 various accounts were settled and Rs 11.50 lakh was collected during the camp.

Flat project

Patna: Ashwani Group of Companies chairman-cum-managing director Ashwani Kumar Singh on Friday announced the launch of its new housing project, “Ashwani City”. The company claimed to provide a 2-BHK flat at Rs 3 lakh and 3-BHK units at Rs 5 lakh in his new housing project which would come up 12km northwest of Digha.

Homoeo meet

Patna: The two-day Homoeopathic Science Congress 2013 was concluded after the valedictory session on Friday. On the second day, Legislative Council chairman Awadhesh Narain Singh spoke on several issues.

Army concern

Patna: Lieutenant General S.K. Singh, the vice-chief of the army, on Friday met chief minister Nitish Kumar and presented him with the Insignia of the Indian Army. Singh was accompanied by Brigadier Asif Hussain, the deputy GCO Bihar-Jharkhand sub-area. Nitish had a detailed talk with them on the issue of facilities and welfare of the retired armymen.

NDA silent on PM

Saharsa, Jan. 25 (PTI): NDA will decide its prime ministerial candidate at the “appropriate time” ahead of the next general elections, JD(U) national president Sharad Yadav today said. It is needless to discuss NDA’s prime ministerial candidate right now as the general elections are far away,” he told journalists who pressed him to disclose the name of the Opposition alliance’s best bet to take on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in the next Lok Sabha elections.

Train deaths

Bangalore (PTI): Two persons, including one from Bihar, were run over by a train while repairing the railway track at Yeshwanthpur on Friday. The deceased were identified as Arun Kumar from Bihar and Kadirappa from Tamil Nadu.

Tributes

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Friday paid floral tributes to late Umashankar Singh, the former RJD MP from Maharajganj, on the premises of the Bihar Legislature.

Bill counters

Patna: Patna Electric Supply Undertaking’s bill collection centres would remain open on Sunday, Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd spokesperson H.R. Pandey on Friday said.
