Vigilance sleuths nab officer

Patna: State vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested Vijay Kumar Singh, station house officer of Jandaha police station in Vaishali district, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 at his official residence. ne Vinod Kumar Singh had approached the vigilance bureau complaining that the police officer had demanded the bribe in lieu of helping him in a case lodged at Jandaha police station. When preliminary verifications confirmed the allegations levelled by the complainant, a special team was constituted under Mohammad Zamirrudin, a deputy superintendent of police rank officer, laid a trap to arrest Singh.

Criminals rob two

Motihari: Four motorcycle-borne armed criminals looted Rs 13.6lakh from two employees of a petrol pump near Chakia while they were on their way to deposit the amount at a local bank on Monday afternoon. One of the four criminals was killed in their own firing, while another one was caught by the residents and was beaten up. The condition of the person is said to be critical. Two other accused managed to escape with the money.

Cong attack

Patna: Congress on Monday expressed apprehensions that the BJP might be behind the recent incidents of mixing poison in food and drinking water in different parts of the state. Party media in-charge Premchand Mishra said the arrest of two youths from the house of former district president of BJP Arjun Prasad in connection with poisoning a hand pump water, indicated towards it. He demanded a CBI probe in the series of incidents.

I-Day celebration

Patna: Patna College has set up 11 committees to celebrate Independence Day this year. A decision to this effect was taken on Monday in the meeting of the staff council.

Inspection visit

Patna: Former deputy chief minister and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi would pay a visit to Sultanganj and Banka to inspect the facilities given to devotees to Deoghar during month of Shravan.

Film course

Patna: Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics on Monday launched its third centre at Rajabazaar locality. The new centre would offer a range of advanced cinematic courses in 3D animation and visual effects.

Cycle rally

Patna: A cycle rally titled Swarna Jayanti Chetna Yatra would be flagged off from Narkatiaganj in West Champaran on Tuesday. The rally is being organised by Sashastra Seema Bal to celebrate the its golden jubilee. Participants would cover a distance of 699km along the India-Nepal border and it would spread message of unity.

Railway fine

Patna: East Central railway collected Rs 41.06 lakh as fine from passengers engaged in violation of different rules in July. Sources said 24 touts engaged in ticket business were also nabbed during the period.

March protest

Patna: GM Free Bihar Movement and Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Swaraj Gathbandhan on Monday gave a joint call for Parliament march on August 8 to register protest against promotion of genetically modified crops.
