Death protest

Muzaffarpur: Hundreds of home guard personnel protested outside the district commercial taxes office to protest the death of their associate, Jagannath Paswan, on Friday. Paswan died at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital on Thursday night. he state president of Bihar Pradesh Griha Raksha Vahini Sangh, Arun Kumar Thakur, alleged that Paswan died because of mental torture inflicted on him by employees of the tax office.

Jail raid

Ara: Police on Friday recovered four cellphones, chargers, opium, cigarettes and others in a raid on the district jail.

E-workshop

Patna: BIT-Patna students were made acquainted with new concepts like e-payment, e-market and e-commerce during a workshop on Friday. Santanoo Pattnaik, an expert on the subject, deliberated on the topic.

HC stay on help

Patna: The high court single bench of Justice Shivaji Pandey on Friday stayed the order of a Siwan court granting legal aid to incarcerated former RJD MP Mohammed Shahabuddin. e had claimed that he needed legal aid from the government because of poor economic condition of his family.

Warming meet

Patna: JD Women’s College organised a workshop on global warming on Friday. Two technical sessions were organised.

Suspect bail

Patna: The high court granted Prince Pandey, an accused in the murder of former Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeshwar Singh “Mukhiya”, bail on Friday. A resident of Bhojpur, he was arrested from Ara on September 1, 2012.

Protest call

Patna: Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) members would stage a march on September 30 to protest against price-rise and increase in the crime rate.

Bank branch

Patna: A new branch of State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur was inaugurated in Buxar on Friday. A press note stated the aim was to cater to areas bereft of banking services.

Loan camp

Patna: United Bank of India disbursed loans worth Rs 20.76 crore among 312 customers at a loan camp organised on Friday. A sum of Rs 3.74 crore was disbursed as home loans.

Workshop

Patna: A five-day workshop-cum-training programme on “Parthenium menace and management” concluded on Friday.

IIT jury

Patna: Diljeet Khanna and Subarto Guha of Siddhartha Advertising have been invited as jury for the annual advertisement design competition being organised by the IIT, Kharagpur, on October 23.
