Agitating farmers suffer injuries

Bagaha: More than 12 sugarcane farmers protesting against the alleged irregularities of Tirupati Sugar Limited suffered injuries during a clash on Monday. or more than four hours, the work had to be stopped by the factory management. Hundreds of farmers were protesting against the alleged anti-farmer conduct of the sugar factory namely, procurement of sugarcane from outside the factory’s reserve area, delay in payment to the farmers, less weight of their product by the mill management and bungling in distribution of challan. hey burnt the effigy of chief minister Nitish Kumar. Police and deputy collector Anil Kumar Patel reached the spot and tried to bring the situation under control.

HC order on sand mining

Patna: The high court on Monday reserved its order on petitions filed by the state government and others for vacating the stay on the auction process for settlement of sand ghats in the state. It, however, permitted earlier lessees to extract sand.

LPG concern

Patna: Food and consumer protection minister Shyam Rajak on Monday held a meeting with department officials and dealers of LPG agencies. The minister directed the dealers of LPG agencies to make delivery of LPG cylinders on time for consumers’ convenience.

Sex racket

Patna: Police on Monday unearthed a sex racket at Kamini Beauty Parlour near Boring Road roundabout. One woman was rescued and two persons were arrested.

Elections

Patna: The biennial elections for the five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar would be held on February 7, 2014. The notification for the elections would be issued on January 21.

ID cards

Patna: Bihar has a total of 6,21,08,447 electorates. Of them 3,30,92,057 are men and 2,90,14,572 women. Of them, only 5,62,69,336 have elector’s photo identity cards.

Minority meet

Patna: Bihar State Minorities Commission chairman Naushad Ahmad on Monday took part in the annual conference of National Commission for Minorities in New Delhi.

Deputation

Patna: Rakesh Kumar Mishra, who was posted as additional director general of police (modernisation) at the state police headquarters, has been relieved for central deputation.

TT team

Patna: At the meeting of selection committee of Table Tennis Federation of India held in Patna during the 75th senior national table tennis championship the federation has selected nine players for GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Kuwait. The tournament will be held from February 12 to 16.

Cap ceremony

Patna: A capping ceremony was held at College of Nursing of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences.

Skill award

Patna: Bihar has been selected for award in the category of best state for skill training of urban poor.
