Mukhiya in north Bihar shot dead

Bettiah: Motorcycle-borne assailants shot dead Anil Mishra, the mukhiya (head) of north Ghogha panchayat in West Champaran district, on Friday. He was 42. ishra, who was also the BJP district secretary, was on his way to Chanpatia from Mainatand when the assailants pumped three bullets into his chest. The sub-divisional police officer of Bettiah, Ramanand Kaushal, said an investigation has been launched into the case.

Remand in rape case

Patna: Chief judicial magistrate Rama Kant Yadav on Friday remanded Motihari resident Anita Devi in judicial custody in connection with the gang rape of two minors involving the Gaya deputy mayor.

Agro college

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar will lay the foundation stone of an agriculture college at Arabari village in Kishanganj district on Saturday. He will also release the agricultural diary prepared by Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour.

FIR against mom

Gopalganj: The district hospital has lodged an FIR against a woman who abandoned her newborn baby on the premises of the health hub after delivery. Civil surgeon Shankar Jha on Friday said the child has been kept in an incubator.

Missing girl dead

Gopalganj: The body of eight-year-old Bandhan Kumari was recovered from a farm at Kali Chhapra village under the jurisdiction of Kateya police station on Friday. She was missing since Wednesday.

Patna: Water resources minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary on Friday attacked BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi for sensationalising the feelings of the people through the janata durbar he has started at 1 Polo Road.

Convocation nod

Patna: Governor D.Y. Patil on Friday approved January 29 as the date for the Patna University convocation.

College attack

Patna: State Congress spokesperson Jyoti Kumar Singh on Friday attacked chief minister Nitish Kumar over his announcement to upgrade the Patna Women’s College as the state’s first women university. She accused Nitish of showing false hope to youths.

Poll date

Patna: Elections to vacant posts in gram panchayats and gram kacharis will be held on January 12, the state election commission announced on Friday. The control room will function from 7am to 6pm.

Patna: Inspector-general (Darbhanga zone) Arvind Pandey on Friday ordered all superintendents of police under his jurisdiction to ensure that no police officer functioned as station house officer on deputation.

Buxar: Police on Friday confiscated 8.8kg marijuana worth Rs 25 lakh from three villages in the district.
