FIR for threat to life

Muzaffarpur: Anjani Kumar Nathani, the principal of Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology, has lodged an FIR against former assistant teacher Vibhuti Vimlesh Ranjan and student Surendra Paswan for threatening him. he FIR was lodged with Barhampura police and police have provided him a bodyguard.

Salary reply

Patna: The acting chairman of Bihar State Human Rights Commission Neel Mani on Friday directed the Buxar superintendent of police to appear before the commission on March 25, as the panel was not satisfied with his reply on a complaint filed by a sweeper, who claimed of not being paid salary since 2010.

Jawan protest

Motihari: Around 40 contract SAP jawans posted at Motihari Central Jail on Friday registered their protest against disparity in salary by tying black badges on their arms.

Shot at

Motihari: Criminals fired at a cloth merchant of Motihari’s Henry Bazaar near Kharwa bridge under the jurisdiction of Banjariya police on Friday. Police could not divulge if the criminals have fled with any money.

Heroin haul

Patna: Sleuths of the directorate of revenue intelligence arrested three persons and seized over 800 grams of heroin valued at Rs 10 crore in the international market from Patna on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, the team conducted a raid at a hotel near Patna Junction. During the search of the hotel room, the officers found 800 grams of heroin. The arrested persons have been identified as Manipur residents Mohammad Furkan and Mohammad Jameel and Uttar Pradesh resident Khalique Akhtar.

Three dead

Aurangabad: Three persons, including a couple, were killed at Rahua village in Aurangabad district late on Thursday night. Property dispute is stated to be the reason behind the killings.

Election

Patna: Chandrama Singh would be the BJP’s candidate for elections to the Saran teachers’ constituency. The votes would be cast on March 23.

Focus on growth studies

Patna: The Fourth Development Meet 2014 of the Centre for Development Studies of Central University of Bihar, Patna, flagged off on Friday. anak Pandey, the vice-chancellor of the university, iterated the vision of the university and its rationale to take up development studies, as its flagship programme, especially in terms of its interdisciplinary and applied character.

Golf tourney

Patna: City golfer Aman Raj would represent the Indian men’s team for South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) Nations Golf tournament to be held at Calcutta between February 24 and 28. Aman (18), a student of BN College, is the youngest among the Indian team along with Karan Taunk and Udayan Mane.

Ignou test

Patna: The entrance examination for management programmes of Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) would be held on February 23. Those who didn’t receive hall tickets till date can download it from the university website, www.ignou.ac.in. The candidates have to enter their names and date of birth to download the hall tickets. The test would be conducted at 81 centres including St Xavier’s School.

ISC exam

Patna: The ISC exams got underway on Friday. On the first day, the students appeared for the Hindi language paper.

Tech fest

Patna: Corona, the 14th annual techno-management fest of NIT-Patna, would start on Saturday. During the three-day fest, various technical and cultural programmes would be organised. Praveen Vettiyattil, the CEO of Sharda Solutions, and lyricist Irshad Kamil would be the guest lecturers.

Fake racket

Patna: Police claimed to have busted a racket involved in printing fake voters’ identity cards after the arrest of one Bablu Kumar from Khagaul in the outskirts of the city on Friday. Voters’ cards, fake certificates of different academic institutions, computer sets, printer, scanner and logo of different government agencies were also seized.

Students call off strike

Patna: The three-day hunger strike called by All India Students’ Association (Aisa) members at Patna University main administrative gate ended on Friday. he Aisa members were on strike against the university administration for its alleged failure to address issues related to students.

Missing case

Patna: A division bench of Patna High Court directed Patna SSP to start departmental proceedings against police officials whose probe delayed a missing person’s case. Eighty-six-year Yadunandan Sharma, a retired additional district magistrate, went missing after boarding the Magadh Express at Patna Junction for Delhi last year.

Lifesaver

Patna: A team of noted surgeon A.A. Hai of Paras HMRI hospital gave a fresh lease of life to a drug addict from Nepal. The team saved his leg from being amputated.

Annual day

Patna: The 34th annual day function of Patna Central School was organised on Friday. The school’s founder chairman, Acharyashree, emphasised on multi-dimensional personality growth of students in his address.

Dog show

Patna: Bihar Veterinary College, Patna, would organise a dog show on February 23 as part of the 87th foundation day function of the college.

Maidan cry

Patna: Led by Bihar Players’ Association president Mritunjay Tiwari, several residents of Patna staged a protest to stop the construction work at Gandhi Maidan. The protesters demanded restoration of the maidan in its original shape.

Film on zoo

Patna: The department of environment and forest has made a 50-minute-long documentary, Lung of the City, based on Patna zoo.

Health camp

Patna: Oxfam India in association with Jan Swasthya Abhiyan organised a programme to underline the importance of health-related issues. peakers dwelt on the need of more funds for the health sector.
