Theft at singer home

B>n Patna, March 5: A group of unidentified criminals broke into the house of Bhojpuri singer Sharda Sinha in the Rajendra Nagar area and decamped with Rs 1.5 lakh and jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh. The theft was discovered this evening when Sinha returned home, along with her husband B.K. Sinha and driver, from Samastipur. inha had gone to Samastipur on March 3, where she is posted as a teacher in a women’s college. Sinha said: “I was shocked to find the lockers of the almirah open and the valuables scattered on the floor. The locks of around half-a-dozen rooms on the ground and first floors were damaged.”enior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj said city superintendent of police Jayant Kant visited the spot after the family informed police. A special team has been formed to crack the case.

Resignation

B>n Patna: The government has accepted the resignation of a 1992-batch IPS officer Ajit Joy and relieved him with effect from February 3, 2005. Departmental proceedings were initiated against the Bihar cadre officer after he proceeded on an unsanctioned leave to take up a new assignment abroad nine years ago. He is set to contest the general elections as an AAP candidate from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.

Shootout

B>n Patna: Two Birpur (Supaul) residents Niraj Kumar, alias Rinku Yadav, and Bihari Yadav were killed in a shootout at Rambagh Chowk under Jhanjharpur police station in Madhubani district on Wednesday.

Special courts

B>n Patna: The government has given the go-ahead to a proposal to set up five special courts in different districts, including Patna and Gaya, to dispose of cases related to atrocities against members of Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes.

Three in net

B>n Patna: Three persons — Bablu Mandal, Komal Kumar and Akhilesh Kumar — were arrested from Oriyat village in Bhagalpur district on Tuesday for outraging the modesty of a middle-aged anganwadi sevika. The accused were remanded in judicial custody for two weeks.
