Census probe order

Patna: Rural development department on Friday issued letters to officials concerned to do spot verification of the works going on in connection with the socio-economic census in areas under their jurisdiction. he department has invited objections from people whose names have been left out in the survey and spot verifications are being conducted to check the veracity of such complaints.

New branch

Patna: Chief zonal manager of Indian Overseas Bank Jitendra Nath Prasad inaugurated a new branch of the bank at Bakri Bazaar in West Champaran district on Friday.

Winners

Patna: The jury for the spot painting competition organised by Bihar State Pollution Control Board earlier this month announced the names of the winners of different categories on Friday. Sources in the board said the winners would be given awards in a function to be organised on June 5 to mark the World Environment Day.

Mukhiya case

Patna: Panchayati raj department principal secretary Amrit Lal Meena on Friday removed Akshay Mandal from the post of mukhiya in Raj Mohanpur gram panchayat, Bhagalpur district for misusing his power, misconduct and corrupt practices.

Party meet

Patna: The CPI-ML(Liberation) would hold a two-day state committee meeting on June 1 and June 2.

House demand

Patna: The Congress had demanded permanent allotment of housing board’s rental, janata and weaker section flats in favour of original allottees of these dwellings. Congress spokesperson Suman Kumar Mallick issued a statement in this regard on Friday urging chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi to take steps for implementing the demand.

Touts action

Patna: Members of Indian National Trade Union Congress have demanded action against touts at railway reservation counters.

Power cut

Patna: Power supply in Danapur, Khahpura, Raja Bazaar, Ashiana, Patliputra, Rajeev Nagar, SK Puri, Rajapur and other areas would remain cut from 10am to 12noon on Saturday.he power supply will remain unavailable owing to maintenance work at Khagaul grid sub-station.

Girls shine

Patna: Girls outshone boys in the Intermediate arts examination-2014. The results of the examination were announced on Friday with a pass percentage of 85 per cent while the percentage of boys who passed the examination was 80.5 per cent.

Raid arrests

Patna: A special task force (STF) team raided a house at Gandhi Nagar in Patna City and nabbed two men with a country-made pistol, 16 live cartridges and an SUV. Three women, allegedly involved in flesh trade, have also been nabbed.

Conference

Patna: Around 175 delegates from US, Germany, Australia, Japan, South Korea and Sri Lank participated in a conference on polymers and allied materials, “International Conference on Polymers and Allied Materials”, organised by IIT-Patna and Hari Shankar Singhania Elastomer and Tyre Research Institute.

Bodies fished out

Darbhanga, May 30: The bodies of two construction workers, who fell into Bagmati’s tributary Kareh on Wednesday, were fished out from the river this morning. ettiah resident Dipak Mahto and Akrahaghat resident Raghunath Sahani were brought out by fishermen, around 200m away from an under-construction bridge at Akrahaghat. The bodies were handed over to their family members after post-mortem at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital.

Youth drowns

Darbhanga: A 26-year-old man, identified as Akrahaghat resident Rohit Lal Dev, drowned in the Kareh river on Friday. Dev drowned while he was bathing in the river after a relative’s funeral at Akrahaghat.

Life term

Supaul (PTI): A local court awarded life imprisonment to two persons, including a woman, in a 20-year-old murder case on Friday. Fast-track court ad hoc judge-II Sunil Kumar Chaudhary passed the order after finding Binod Khatbe and Rambha Devi guilty in the 1994 murder of one Chulai Khatbe. The convicts, who were out on bail, were sent to jail.

Assault

Nawada (PTI): A Dalit couple were allegedly beaten up at Nawazgarh village under the jurisdiction of Warsaliganj police station for refusing to work in some people’s fields for free, police said on Friday. The alleged attack took place on Thursday night. A case has been lodged based on the couple’s statement.

Cop dismissal

Patna: The government on Friday dismissed former Jhanjharpur sub-divisional police officer Samiran Choudhary from service. He was suspended in 2011 and departmental proceedings were initiated against him after allegations of shielding his subordinates and accused in a high-profile robbery in Mumbai were found true.

Manjhi list

Patna, (PTI): Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has directed officials to prepare a charter of demands for the state which he would hand over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi reminding of the pre-poll promises he had made. “After the charter of demands is prepared, I will seek time from Narendra Modi,” he said.
