Guard shoots self

Patna: Vineet Kumar (29), one of the bodyguards of Magadh division deputy inspector-general (DIG) of police Bachchu Singh Meena, was killed on Thursday outside the DIG’s official chamber after he accidentally pulling the trigger of his Insas rifle. e was talking on his cellphone at the time of incident. The bullet pierced his neck and he slumped on the floor. He was rushed to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Gaya senior superintendent of police Nishant Kumar Tiwary said an FIR was lodged with the Civil Lines police station in this connection.

Heist case

Patna: Police have hinted at the involvement of some bank officials in connection with the May 13 Rs 1-crore heist in Fatuha. Senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj said: “Cash van drivers get to know the destination 10 to 15 minutes before the journey starts. But here, the information was leaked the day before. Bribery cuffs

Patna: Pradip Kumar Pandey, a head clerk of Khagaria district treasury office, was nabbed by the vigilance investigation bureau on Thursday for allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 as bribe. One Aditya Kumar had to pay the bribe to get a certified copy of the registered deed of his land.

Stick on govt

Patna: The high court division bench of Justice Navin Sinha and Justice Anjana Mishra on Thursday directed the state government to file a reply on what basis it gives no-objection certificates to schools opening up in every nook and corner of the state. The court took exception to schools opening up in residential houses without basic amenities. The next date of hearing has been fixed on July 8.

Doc strike

Patna: Around 1,600 contract doctors would go on indefinite strike under the banner of Contract Doctors’ Association from June 1 to press for their long-pending demands, including regularisation of services and pay hike.

Patna: Indian Overseas Bank convened a meeting of all its branch managers on Wednesday.

Bank audit

Patna: Bank of Baroda announced its audited results for the fourth quarter of 2013-14 on Thursday. The bank’s global business touched Rs 9.66 lakh crore, while total deposits increased by 20.1 per cent and total advances rose by 21 per cent.

Teacher dies

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday mourned the death of Indira Sinha, educationist and wife of physician Dr Gopal Prasad Sinha. He said Sinha’s death had caused irreparable damage to the field of education.
