Patna, Feb. 14: The alleged murder of Dilip Kumar, a Saidpur Hostel boarder, has come back to haunt Patna University.

A group of students from the hostel staged a demonstration on the campus today demanding “justice” for the deceased and his family.

The boarders, who were sitting on a dharna, created ruckus at the main building demanding monetary compensation and job to a family member of the deceased.

Trouble started around 1pm when most of the senior officials, including vice-chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh, dean students’ welfare P.K. Poddar and others, were present at the university.

Sources said most of the students who were sitting on the dharna were from the Saidpur Hostel. However, not a single family member of the deceased joined the protest.

On December 27, the Patna police recovered the body of Dilip, a postgraduate student of PU, from an abandoned cafeteria on the hostel premises.

Some boarders of the hostel had found the body on the same day, stacked under a rack at an abandoned mess of the hostel. Four people, including a CRPF personnel, were arrested a few days after the incident in connection with the case.

Today, more than 50 boarders demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation to the kin of the deceased, a job to one of the family members and immediate arrest of the persons who were behind the murder.

The boarders staged the dharna without informing the university administration for more than two hours. The VC said: “The boarders wanted to meet me. But since they had staged a demonstration without informing the university administration, I did not meet them.”

Poddar, on the other hand, said he kept urging the police to send cops but not a single officer reached the campus. Later, the students, who were protesting left the spot because no officials met the boarders.

Patna City deputy superintendent of police Sushil Kumar said: “According to police investigation, some insiders in connivance with outsiders might have murdered Dilip.”

The forensic report has come and the reason behind the murder will be known only after the investigation is completed, the police said.
