| Residents try to douse the flames that engulfed a godown on Bhootnath Road on Sunday morning. The fire in a tent house caused extensive damage to the godown building. Several people living in middle-income group (MIG) flats of the Bihar Housing Board were trapped inside since the fire broke out around 7.30am. The flames engulfed furniture and other articles stored on the ground floor of the multi-storeyed building. The fire also gutted a car parked on the compound of the MIG building. Five fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. It took more than three hours for the fire fighters to bring the situation under control. Station house officer of Agamkuan police station Uttim Singh said there was no report of any casualty in the incident. “A short circuit in the power lines is believed to have caused the fire,” he added. Singh said property worth Rs 3 lakh was destroyed. A complaint has been lodged in connection with the incident. Text by Ramashankar, picture by Ranjeet Kumar Dey |
