Bodhgaya is set to get a makeover for the ease and security of visiting devotees ahead of the Kalchakra Puja beginning on January 3.

The puja, which will be led by the Dalai Lama, is being organised in Bodhgaya for the fifth time after the earlier editions in 1974, 1985, 2003 and 2012. Buddhists from the Northeast of the country and Tibet, apart from a few European and American devotees, like Richard Gere in 2003 and 2012, are expected to attend the puja.

District magistrate Kumar Ravi said, "More than two lakh devotees are expected to visit Bodhgaya. WhatsApp numbers will be made available for registering complaints, if any, and cell numbers belonging to administrative officials will also be displayed at different places, so that problems can can be sorted out immediately. Chief minister Nitish Kumar is expected to review the arrangements made on December 23 in Bodhgaya.

Flexes with messages in Hindi, English and Tibetan, apart from internationally recognised signs, will be put up to ease visiting devotees. Pre-recorded audio-visual announcements in all three languages will also be played.

For accommodation, devotees have been provided tents, apart from hotels, guesthouses and private houses. Three types of tents are available - plywood tents, Swiss cottage and European tents - on the Magadh University premises, along the Niranjana river and near Node II on the Gaya-Bodhgaya riverside.

For security, all areas will be under CCTV surveillance. At least 31 police camps for Gaya district police, and additional security personnel from other districts, will be made available along with a dog squad for security checks.
