Patna: Road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav on Thursday launched a brochure on the output and performance-based road assets maintenance contract (OPRMC).
Under the OPRMC, 8,060 km of roads were handed over in 2013 to private contractors for maintenance for five years.
The minister claimed that because of OPRMC, more than 55 per cent of the roads in the state have no potholes.
"The brochure has been launched for distribution among lawmakers because very few people know which road comes under OPRMC," Nand Kishore said. "The brochure includes names and length of the roads along with a CD which gives details about the OPRMC."
A total of 855 complaints were received on the OPRMC roads since September 2013 when the scheme was launched, of which 553 complaints were addressed, the minister said.
The OPRMC roads are divided into 74 packages.
"We came to know that works on five packages were not up to mark and we have initiated disciplinary action against the five contractors," Nand Kishore said.
"In five other packages we have given warning to the contractors," he added.
The OPRMC also mandates a road ambulance for repairs, clearing obstacles, dealing with hit and run cases, etc.
These ambulances are fitted with Global Positioning System (GPS) and controlled from a central control room located in Patna.
