Patna: Cloudy conditions are expected in Patna and several other parts of the state on Monday. Some parts of north and eastern Bihar witnessed cloudy conditions on Sunday itself.

Weathermen attributed this sudden change in the local weather to a western disturbance which is heading towards east and one trough line which was passing through eastern parts of Bihar.

"A western disturbance is heading towards Bihar due to which cloudy conditions were witnessed in parts of north Bihar on Sunday. The cloud cover is expected to reach Patna by Sunday evening. On Monday, the city could witness cloud cover," Patna Met office scientist Anand Shankar said.

He said the cloud cover in eastern parts of the state owed its origin in the tough line passing through the area.

The western disturbance is a low-pressure area or extra-tropical storm that originates in the Mediterranean Sea area and moves eastwards. It enters India through Pakistan and Afghanistan and causes winter rain in several parts of north-western India and its impact is sometimes felt right up to Bihar and areas falling east of the state when it crosses this region during its eastward journey.

A trough is an elongated region of relatively low atmospheric pressure and areas falling near this line generally witness weather related activities, including cloud formation and sometimes rain also.

Maintaining that several parts of Bihar were expected to witness cloudy conditions on Monday, Shankar said chances of rainfall were not much. "Little rain may take place at one or two places," said the Met scientist and added that the weather was expected to become clear by Tuesday.

Owing to the expected cloudy conditions on Monday, the day's temperature is expected to witness a minor drop and it may come down by 2°C.

"Cloudy condition does not allow sunrays to reach the surface which leads to a drop in the day temperature," Shankar said, giving reasons for the expected drop in the day's temperature which is hovering well above the 30°C mark in Patna for the past three days.
