Bhagalpur, June 27 (PTI): A man died on way to a hospital here under police custody last night.

The accused, Ram Tanti, was on his way to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital last night where he was being taken for treatment after being referred by the attending doctors at a referral hospital, police said.

The deceased complained of chest pain soon after being brought to the police station, they said.

Tanti was arrested in connection with a case of 2006 in which he was absconding. The victim’s relatives alleged that Tanti died because of torture by the policemen at Pirpaiti police station, a charge that police inspector J.N. Thakur has denied.
