Patna, Oct. 22: Medanta Medicity, a super specialty hospital in Gurgaon, Haryana, in association with Lion’s Club, Patna, will organise a free three-day medical camp in the capital in January next year.
This was announced by Medanta’s director and noted cardiovascular surgeon, Dr Naresh Trehan, at a news conference in Patna today.
Dr Trehan said that the free health camp will be organised on the premises of Bihar Industries Association at Anugrah Sinha Library Path. A special mobile van will be stationed at the camp to carry out the medical tests on people.
“The camp will be organised on January 13, 14 and 15 and thousands of people would benefit from it. The mobile van at the camp will have the facilities to diagnose heart ailments, infectious diseases and even cancer. For the first time, mammography will also be carried out in the van to detect breast cancer,” said the veteran surgeon who has been awarded Padmabhushan.
Stressing upon the fact that cardio-diabetic diseases are taking the shape of an epidemic in the country, Dr Trehan said: “It is disturbing to note that around 10 crore people in India are suffering from these diseases. Heart ailments are a result of irregular lifestyle habits. Wrong food intake, stress and lack of exercise are the reasons why most people fall prey to these ailments. These can all be prevented by adopting a better lifestyle,” he added.
Dr Trehan said there are some people who are in the high-risk group because of a family history of the disease. “However, we are in a position to claim that about 90 per cent of total patients can be cured completely if the disease is detected early. Those, who do not have time for activities like walking, jogging or other sports, can do yoga and pranayam, which is the best way to keep fit.”
Avoiding oily food and sweet dishes in daily diet is also very important,” the doctor said.
Dr A.N. Jha, head of neurosurgery at Medanta, said that the van, after camping at the capital for three days, will also, go to his hometown Madhubani.
