Patna: The beautification work of Gandhi Maidan, which includes new jogging track, benches and lights at the cost of Rs 3 crore would be completed by May 2018.
Patna divisional commissioner Anand Kishor on Monday inspected the ongoing work in which he issued the order to complete the work in a stipulated time.
The work on the jogging track inside Gandhi Maidan had commenced on December 28 and other works related to beautification of the ground.
It was the first time that Kishor inspected the ground to check the quality of work. The work includes installation of 160 wrought iron benches apart from 60 designer lights.
He also checked the morrum pathway (jogging track) and by holding the morrum in his hands Kishor asked from where it was brought. The contractor responsible for executing the work said it has been brought from Koderma.
The morrum pathway is being created adjacent to the concrete road for the purpose of jogging. The work of installing the chequered red tiles and paver blocks on both sides of the morrum pathway has also started.
Terming the project important for residents, Kishor said once it is complete the beauty of the ground, spread over 62 acres, would improve.
"The jogging track would be around 2-km-long and the chequered red tiles adjacent the jogging track would be equally long. A jogging track was a long-pending demand of morning walkers because it was not healthy to walk on concrete," Kishor said.
He minutely checked the yellow, red, grey and chocolate paver blocks. Kishor instructed the contractor to install two designer benches at one place and there should be a gap of at least 4ft.
During the inspection it was found that the height of the designer lights was 30ft to which Kishor raised objections saying trees would block the lights. He asked the contractor to make it 15ft.
There's a plan for an open theatre at the Gandhi Maidan in the future.
