Students seeking admission to Magadh Mahila College would have to take an entrance test this year, as decided by Patna University.

Those applying for admission to humanities and science courses would have to take the entrance exam on July 2. Students keen to pursue a BCom degree would have to appear for a test on July 4.

The college principal, Dolly Sinha, announced the dates of the entrance tests at a news meet on Friday.

“The students would have to answer 100 multiple-choice objective questions in each of the tests,” said Sinha.

Explaining the format of the question paper, she said: “For the BA entrance tests, questions for 60 marks would be on the subject a student applies for. The rest would be on general knowledge and aptitude.”

She said: “In the test for the admission to BSc courses, 60 marks would be from the science subjects. Of that, 40 marks would be allotted to questions on physics and chemistry. Students can choose to answer questions on biology or mathematics (20 marks). The rest 40 marks would be again on general knowledge and aptitude.”

Discussing the BCom entrance test paper, Sinha said: “Students would be required to answer question on economics, mathematics and accounts (total 60 marks).”

Lali Srivastava, a history teacher at the college, said: “Students would be given OMR (optical mark recognition) sheets for answering the questions. They will have to fill up the circles corresponding to correct answers on the OMR sheets using a black or blue ballpoint pen. As we don’t have an OMR machine — used to correct the answer sheets — we are trying to hire one.”

She added that the college would also try to declare the results of the entrance tests before July 17.
