Patna, June 26: A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the alleged suicide committed by an undertrial, Munna Singh, in Biharsharif district jail on June 24.
Additional district magistrate Ram Chandra Prasad has been assigned to conduct the probe and submit a report to the district magistrate.
Acting Nalanda district magistrate Jai Singh said a magisterial inquiry has been ordered to ascertain under what circumstances the prisoner committed suicide and how the sulphas tablets reached inside the prison.
In addition the chief judicial magistrate of Nalanda has been requested to conduct a separate inquiry into the death of the undertrial prisoner, who was facing trial in a double murder case lodged with the Silao police station.
“On June 24, Munna was scheduled to appear before a trial court. The trial in the murder case in which he was an accused was almost complete,” he said, adding that he has already recommended action against the jail officials.
The preliminary probe conducted by acting superintendent of police Dilip Kumar Jha and sub-divisional officer (Sadar) Amresh Kumar Amar, in their joint report submitted to the district magistrate, said that Munna committed suicide by consuming suphas.
