Gaya: A two-member inquiry committee probing charges of nepotism and irregularities against Magadh University vice-chancellor (VC) Qamar Ahsan visited the headquarters in Bodhgaya on Tuesday.
Allegation of arbitrary and whimsical disaffiliation of colleges has also been levelled against Ahsan.
University sources said the committee members have conducted a preliminary inquiry into the charges. Proper inquiry will be conducted at the Gaya Circuit House on Friday.
Sushil Singh, BJP MP from Aurangabad, the main complainant, has been asked to provide evidence in support of his charges against VC Ahsan.
"I welcome the inquiry," said Ahsan. "I hope the committee appreciates measures I have taken to introduce transparency and rule of law in the university administration."
Tentatively, the committee will first hear Singh, and then give time to ABVP leaders and others who had also petitioned the governor against Ahsan.
Ahsan has denied the charges twice in writing - in December 2017 and June 2018.
In a notification issued by Vivek Singh, principal secretary to the governor, on August 7 the VC's reply was found unsatisfactory and the two-member probe committee was formed.
The ongoing vigilance inquiry into the award of PhD degrees to more than 350 foreigners, including Thai nationals, in allegedly fraudulent manner has also gathered pace following rejection of 40 degrees by Thailand.
