Gaya, March 31: A 56-year-old physically challenged man, Ajay Yadav, was lynched late last evening at a jan adalat (kangaroo court) held by suspected Maoists at Lutua village in Imamganj area of the district headquarters.
The session was held at a place that is barely 100yards from the house of the victim, a public distribution shop (PDS) dealer, in Bankebazaar block.
Sources said Ajay was killed because of an enmity between the Maoists and Ajay. The sources added a relative of the victim is a senior Maoist leader.
Magadh range deputy inspector-general of police (DIG) Nyyer Hasnain Khan said a case has been lodged in connection with Yadav’s murder. He added that action would be taken against the culprits.
The DIG said the deceased was not an informer of the police. “He was a physically challenged man, earning a livelihood by running a PDS shop,” he told The Telegraph. Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel have launched a combing operation in the area to arrest the culprits, Khan said.
The sources said the Maoists abducted two other villagers following the kangaroo court that was attended by 100 guerrillas.
The residents today staged a blockade on Imamganj-Bankebazaar road near Bhaluhaar village for three hours since 8am and staged a demonstration with the victim’s body. The block development officer rushed to the area and convinced the protesters to lift the blockade.
Ahay’s dealership for the PDS shop was suspended three years ago. However, a local court revoked the suspension order two days ago. The sources said Ajay’s dealership was suspended allegedly at the behest of some Maoist leaders.
