Patna, Jan. 24: The true love of the Fillipino woman posted at the US airbase in Afghanistan for her boyfriend from West Champaran can bring him out of the jail.

Moved by her series of emails seeking release of her boyfriend, police are considering reviewing the sexual assault case. The boyfriend of the 41-year-old woman is in Gaya central jail at present.

The woman is learnt to have addressed the emails to the director-general of police (DGP), Abhayanand. He, in turn, forwarded them to the inspector-general (weaker sections), Arvind Pandey, with a note to look into her recent appeal.

Pandey, who is monitoring the developments in the high-profile case lodged with Bodhgaya police station, confirmed that it could be reviewed in the wake of the recent developments.

“Such an instruction is being given to the investigating officer,” he told The Telegraph.

The woman is said to have claimed in the mails that the relatives of her boyfriend had promised to accept her as his bride. Her boyfriend had wished for the same earlier, one of the emails read.

Gaya senior superintendent of police Vinay Kumar said he would have no objection if the two sides reached a compromise. “But the complainant has to be present before the police for physical verification of her statement,” he said.

Kumar said since the accused (the youth hailing from Mainatand in West Champaran district) had been booked for sexual assault, there were legal hurdles too. “Decisions would be taken keeping the spirit of the law in mind,” he told The Telegraph.

The 26-year-old Champaran resident was taken into custody from his house under Mainatand police station area on January 18. He was handed over to the Gaya police on January 19.

The youth admitted that he had invited the woman to Patna to celebrate the New Year with him. She landed at the city airport on December 29. After spending a day in the state capital, the duo went to Bodhgaya. She left for New Delhi from Gaya on January 2, he added.
