| A Gaya College student on Tuesday burns tyres in front of the institute in protest against the transfer of principal Shreekant Sharma to TPS College, Patna. The college’s students and non-teaching employees also went on the rampage in front of the residence of Magadh University vice-chancellor Mohammad Ishtiyaque. They became infuriated after the new principal, Shamsul Islam, reached the college and took over charge from Sharma. The agitated students blocked the road near the college and raised slogans against Ishtiyaque, after which they marched to his residence. The students ransacked the garden and smashed lights on the premises. Following the vice-chancellor’s order on Monday, university registrar DK Yadav issued the notification for the transfer of 10 constituent college principals. A delegation led by Gaya College Teachers’ Association general secretary Ram Bilash Singh met Ishtiyaque on Monday and were assured that Sharma won’t be transferred. However, a fresh notification was not issued and Islam took charge. Text by Alok Kumar, picture by Suman |
