Students of Delhi Public School, Gaya, dressed as Mahatma Gandhi, take part in a peace procession in the town on Tuesday to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation. More than 600 students were part of the 4.5-km march that its organisers claimed was a record of sorts. Event co-ordinator Shakti Kumar said: “The peace march started from the school campus at Mustafabad at the western end of the town. After passing through Asha Singh Mor, Gewal Bigha, Gandhi Maidan, Court Road and Gautam Buddha Road, the march concluded at Azad Park. During the procession, the students stopped at Gandhi Mandap for nearly 30 minutes and garlanded the statue.” The director of the school, D.K. Pathak, said: “The march was organised to inculcate the philosophy of Gandhiji in students. It is important to make youths aware of the philosophy of non-violence that Gandhiji made popular at a time when Naxalism and violence are on the rise in Bihar and other states.” Text by Alok Kumar, picture by Suman |
