Patna, May 10: A Rs 250-crore mega leather cluster sprawling across 500 acres is set to come up within 100km of Patna, lending a big boost to the industry sector in Bihar.
Delhi-based Pristine Group of Companies, which is behind the leather cluster project, is also developing the mega food park at Mansi in Khagaria, 180km east of Patna, and a dry port in Bihta, Patna.
Senior officials of the company told The Telegraph on Friday that the cluster project would be launched by September this year and the port would be completed by October.
“The company has identified the land for the leather project within a 100-km radius of Patna. At this moment, we cannot disclose its location, as land rates can go up. The project, to be built at an estimated Rs 250 crore, will be launched by September this year,” said Priyamwad Singh, one of the directors of the company.
The senior official said they had detailed discussions with the state industries department and other departments/ministries concerned both at the Centre and the state in connection with the project.
“We have made our presence felt in the state and apart from this, we are working on two more big projects, the construction of the dry port in Bihta and the mega food park in Khagaria. The leather cluster will consist of many units manufacturing different kinds of leather products at one place. Details will be clear soon,” said Singh.
He added that work on the food park would pick pace from June.
“The Centre had approved 23 food parks and one of them had been given to Bihar. The mega food park will be constructed on more than 100 acres for Rs 200 crore. It would have around 33 food-processing units of different kinds and a railway terminal apart from storage facilities. Work is on in this connection,” Singh told The Telegraph.
When quizzed about the dry port, announced in Bihta in March, Singh said the work was going on in full steam.
“Being set up at Rs 100 crore on 23.78 acres, this would be a landmark for Patna and the state. We are working according to the plan and the project would be complete by October this year. It would get a unique identification number. And on the maritime map, Bihta will show a similar unique identification number,” he said.
