Patna: Madhepura police arrested gangster Sudama Yadav, a terror in the Kosi region, and seized a cache of illegal arms and ammunition from his hideout on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Udakishunganj sub-divisional police officer C.P. Yadav conducted a raid at Sautari village under Chausa police station and arrested Sudama with his accomplice, Mithun Singh.
Four countrymade rifles and pistols, 25 live cartridges and a bindaulia (bag to carry live bullets) were seized from the duo who face charges of murder, extortion and robbery. Their other accomplices managed to escape.
Udakishunganj officer Yadav said Sudama was evading arrest for the past eight months. "Raids are still on to nab the other gang members," the officer said.
Sudama, police sources said, had of late turned into a contract killer. He was involved in the murder of former Makdumpur mukhiya (panchayat head) Ram Chandra Mandal and RJD leader Pramod Kumar Yadav.
Madhepura superintendent of police Sanjay Kumar said members of the raid team will be rewarded for their work.
