Patna, Nov. 21: Police last evening recovered a boy from the clutches of his uncle who then tried to forcibly marry him off to his minor daughter.
Eleven-year-old Krish Kumar got the shock of his life when his relative kidnapped him yesterday. What followed was even more shocking. In his statement to the police, the Class V student said Pandey tried to conduct the boy's marriage with his nine-year-old daughter in the moving SUV.
The main accused, identified as Pankaj Pandey, is absconding. The boy, the son of Jitendra Kumar Singh, a businessman, was recovered around 8.45pm from the Sipara area under the jurisdiction of Beur police station.
"The boy resides in Bishunpur Pakdi area of Beur. He returned from school at 1pm every day. The school bus would drop him some metres from home, where Pankaj was waiting for him yesterday," a Beur police station officer said.
He told Krish his grandmother was ill and he should accompany him to a hospital. Knowing Pankaj well, Krish suspected nothing. But as soon as he entered the SUV, Krish blindfolded and took him away.
After a complaint was lodged, the police got a tip-off from witnesses who had seen the boy board the SUV. On getting to know from the family that Pankaj had proposed Krish's marriage to his daughter several times, they rushed to Pankaj's house. There, they made the family call up Pankaj and from the conversation confirmed Krish was with him.
" Using a cellphone tower location, his whereabouts were traced and a team chased the car. Realising his game was up, Pankaj pushed Krish out of the vehicle near Sipara and fled," the officer said. "He was told his bride was in the car and beaten up when he refused to marry. Pankaj even threatened to eliminate his family. The boy was made to wear a suit, given vermilion, which he was forced to put on the girl's forehead. Garlands were exchanged after which he was made to wear his uniform again," the officer said.
