A 15-year-old girl is struggling for life in a critical condition at a government hospital in Samastipur after a man she refused to marry pushed her off a moving train on the Barauni-Samastipur section of East Central Railway on Wednesday morning.
The Class X student, a resident of Baruraj police station area in neighbouring Muzaffarpur, was allegedly kidnapped by her neighbour Mohammad Makki and two of his associates when she was on her way to attend coaching classes on July 2.
Samastipur Government Railway Police station house officer (SHO) Binod Ram said some local residents found the girl lying in a pool of blood on the tracks near railway crossing number 35 adjacent to Dalsinghsarai station in Samastipur, about 95km east of Patna, around 8.30am. They rushed her to a local hospital.
The SHO said the girl received multiple injuries on her head and body after Makki allegedly pushed her off the train after she refused to marry him. According to the police, the incident occurred when Makki was taking her to Samastipur bya train to marry her at a local court.
The police recovered a ticket from the girl's possession, which suggested that she had boarded the train at Sugauli station in East Champaran.
"The girl was recognised with the help of an identity card issued by her coaching institute," the SHO told The Telegraph over phone.
He said the Baruraj police have been informed, and "the girl's parents left for Samastipur after receiving information from the police station".
The girl's condition is stated to be critical.
"The police will record the girl's statement once her condition improves," SHO Binod said. "When she gained consciousness for a while, she told the police that she was pushed from a running train by Makki when she refused to go with him to the court."
The girl's father, a resident of Mehadinagar Bankat village, had lodged a complaint with the Baruraj police station that unidentified criminals had kidnapped his minor daughter when she was going to her coaching institute on July 2.
"The girl fell unconscious after the alleged kidnappers put a handkerchief laced with chloroform on her nose," said Samastipur superintendent of police (SP) Nawal Kishore Singh.
"She was confined in a room from July 2 to July 4 and pressured to marry Makki. She will be handed over to the Baruraj police, as the victim's family there has lodged a case of kidnapping. An FIR has been registered on the initial statement of the girl," the SP added.
The Baruraj police have failed to arrest the accused even after three days of the incident.
"The accused are absconding," said an officer posted at Baburaj police station, around 40km north of the district headquarters town and around 120km northeast of Patna.
Last month, another teenaged girl was allegedly kidnapped, raped and thrown off a running train near Kiul railway station in Lakhisarai. She is recuperating at Patna Medical College and Hospital.
