Head to the Patna zoo if you would like to test your wildlife knowledge.

The facility will soon have a self-interpretation centre using which visitors would be able to acquaint themselves with basic knowledge about the zoo and its inmates.

"Tender for setting up this facility will be finalised this month after which work will start," zoo director Nand Kishore, who is in Kerala these days in connection with an official training, said. The facility would have a cost component of about Rs 30 lakh.

He said the facility was likely to be available to visitors in the second half of the year if things moved as per plans. This facility will come up in the place of the old guest house which has now been dismantled and a new building is coming up at its place. Near this facility, a 3D theatre too would come up to screen wildlife related films.

The zoo has already added one education hall, which was inaugurated by chief minister Nitish Kumar in October last year, where documentaries related to information about the zoo are screened.

The zoo administration has also taken steps for developing a proper parking facility for visitors near gate number one on Bailey Road.

"The new facility would have space for parking 200 motorbikes and 100 four-wheelers, including buses. The parking rates would be decided once the facility is developed," said the zoo director.

Nand Kishore said he was also expecting approval from the department bosses for developing a proper restaurant on the roof of the upcoming parking facility.

"This restaurant can be a very good revenue generator for the facility as we intend to provide it private players on rent and selection would be done on the basis of competitive bidding," Nand Kishore said.

Ashiana Nagar resident Sudha Singh, a mother of two school-going kids, said: "A restaurant at the zoo will be a big hit because it is located along the Bailey Road and enjoying the food while viewing the greenery and wild animals of Patna zoo would be a treat for residents."
