Patna, July 4: “Ethical hacker” Ankit Fadia has predicted that the next cyber war will be fought on the mobile hacking platform.
Alarmed over the growing incidents of cyber crime, a group of students from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Roorkee and Kharagpur have taken up the responsibility to create awareness among the common people about the menace.
The group named “All My Courses Dot Com” is planning to organise a two-day workshop at Kalidas Rangalaya on July 9 and 10. The workshop will include discussion on various aspects of cyber crime and research scholars and Internet security experts from IIT-Kanpur will take part.
“The workshop will be divided into four sessions of three hours each. The topics that will be covered at the workshop will included phishing, wireless hacking, mobile hacking, ATM/credit card fraud, password theft, SQL injection and other general types of hacking,” said Virat Tiwari, a student of IIT-Roorkee and a member of the group.
Girijesh Jha, a student of IIT-Kanpur and the group coordinator, said: “With the advent of the Internet and other networking technology, our life has become much easier and organised. However, with these benefits comes a great threat, the threat of breach of one’s privacy.”
Apart from creating awareness on cyber crime, the group will also guide other students, especially those pursuing computer education, about the job opportunities for them in the cyber world.
“At IIT-Kanpur, we have observed that students are earning handsome amount by working in the field of cyber crime. Many of our fellow students have not only found a source to generate income but have also created jobs for others. Our focus is to open this avenue for the students of Bihar too,” added Jha.
Harsh Anurag, another member of the group and student of IIT-Roorkee said: “With rising number of Internet users, the threat of breach of privacy is also increasing. The youths of Bihar must be equipped with the ways to protect themselves from such threats. Our goal is to train more people so that they can remain alert about cyber crimes.”
The IIT students said that traditional education being provided in colleges need to be supplemented with skill-development training that can propel the students on a better career path.
“With this idea in our mind, we have planned a series of workshops for the students of Patna. These workshops will be on various topics such as embedded systems, robotics, video making and editing, Photoshop and other tools,” said Jha.
