Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) vice-chancellor Harish Chandra Singh Rathore on Wednesday flagged off trucks laden with relief material for flood-affected people of Bihar.
On the occasion, Rathore said more than cash and kind it was important to keep the brotherhood and spirit of humanity. He praised the effort of the CUSB community development cell (CDC) and said: 'Though we are a small family, we have managed to generate such resources.'
Sujeet Kumar, the convener of the CDC, said donation campaigns were carried out in both the Patna and Gaya campuses. He said the huge support of university faculty members, staff and students had helped CDC collect around Rs 90,000 and good amount of eatables. Kumar said the cash will be donated to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, while the clothes and the eatables will be distributed in flood-affected areas.
Anju Helen Bara, co-convener of the CDC, said its members, along with some student volunteers, will visit flood-hit areas near Muzaffarpur and directly distribute relief materials to the affected people.
Anupam Kumar, a CUSB student, said: 'We students made donations for the noble cause as per our capacity. We understand that our small effort will be big for people affected by the floods.'
Patriotic song contest
The department of education of Patna Women's College organised an inter-school patriotic song competition for school students on Tuesday. The multi-purpose-hall of Patna Women's College rent with melodies of patriotism. Students from different schools performed patriotic songs, which were well appreciated.
Anu Meha and Priyanka of the department of education, Patna Women's College, were the masters of the ceremony in which seven groups left the audience spellbound with their rendition, some of which comprised songs from Bollywood movies.
Delhi Public School bagged the first prize, Leeds Asian School the second, while the third was clinched by St Karen's High School, Litera Valley School and Don Bosco Academy collectively.
Anuja, a student of Patna Women's College, said: 'The main idea behind organising the competition was to infuse the spirit of patriotism in young minds.' Anuja claimed that in this era, students know about movies and games, but they have little information about freedom fighters. By organising this event, we wanted students to know about people who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Prayer meeting
St Xavier's College of Education Kurji organised a memorial prayer service for Fr Jacob Muthuplackal, a retired faculty member of the college, who departed for his heavenly abode after a short illness on August 20, 2017, in Kerala. The prayer meeting was held on August 26.
The programme began with an introduction by assistant professor Deep Kumar, who shared his experience with Father Jacob as his own method teacher, guide and later a colleague. Deep Kumar said: 'Father Jacob was a man of discipline, values, hard work and a best guide.' He also shared the role of Father Jacob as the vice-president and later, the president of the St Xavier's College of Education Alumni Association.
The college principal, Father Tom Perumalil, all faculty members and non-teaching employees of the college, first and second year BEd students, MEd trainees and member of the SXCE Alumni Association took part in the prayer service.
Teaching workshop
The School of Education, Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), organised a five-day workshop from August 28 to explore innovative teaching practices and to train teachers on how to apply and experiment with them in the teaching-learning process.
The workshop was held under Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching, a scheme launched by the ministry of human resource development.
The workshop aimed to bring into light various innovative practices, to make teachers and teacher educators skilful for using innovative methods and strategies to facilitate the learners and to make the classroom environment child-friendly.
Prabhat Kumar Singh, head and dean of Centre for Foreign Languages (English) and in-charge of Gaya Campus Central University of South Bihar, inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural address, he discussed about the combination of traditional and modern methods of teaching and the way the innovations and experiments can benefit students.
Dental check-up
St Xavier's College, in collaboration with the Lions Club of Patliputra Aastha, organised a free dental check-up and awareness-cum-smile designing camp on Thursday.
A team of specialist dental surgeons and paramedical staff carried out a comprehensive dental check-up on students of St Xavier's College and St Xavier's College of Management and Technology, Patna.
The camp began with a talk on dental awareness by Dr Emmanuel Page, an alumnus of Christian Medical College, Ludhiana. He educated students about common dental ailments, especially stressing on tooth decay and gum diseases. Addressing the gathering, he said: 'We all wish to look good but it so happens that we get embarrassed by our discoloured and misaligned teeth. We try to hide, and never feel confident, and therefore, always carry a worried smile.'
Archana Rajhans, a model-cum-actress, was also present. She was one of Dr Page's former patients who used to carry a passive smile, but after undergoing a minor dental treatment, she regained her confidence and became successful. She said: 'There is nothing to worry about now. I am confident with all my facial expressions and happy that I carry an active smile.'
Dhrub Kumar of third-year bachelor of computer applications hosted the event. He later said: 'The students during the camp underwent check-up of their teeth. It was very good experience as students discussed their dental problems with the dentist.'
