Patna: Patna University will appoint ad-hoc teachers at Patna Training College and Women's Training College. The move comes after the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) last year cancelled the affiliations of the two colleges for the academic session 2018-20 due to insufficient number of teachers and asked Patna University to appoint teachers.
At Patna Training College there are only two teachers including principal Lalit Kumar, and principal Veena Prasad is the only teacher at the Women's Training College.
A senior teacher at Patna University said: "After the NCTE de-recognised the two teacher-training colleges, the varsity administration woke up from its slumber with senior officials knocking on the door of the state education department," revealed a senior Patna University teacher. "Based on the request made by Patna University, the education department granted permission to the varsity to carry out appointment of teachers on ad-hoc basis."
The education department will issue the advertisement for the appointment of the teachers.
Sudhakar Singh, the other teacher at Patna Training College, said: "A total of 30 teachers, 15 each at Patna Training College and Women's Training College, will be appointed. These teachers will get a monthly salary of Rs 25,000 and they will be appointed on contract." Both Patna Training College and Women's Training College are oldest institutions of Patna University imparting BEd courses but for the past few years they have been plagued by inadequate number of teachers.
Anupam Narayan, a student at Patna Training College, said: "The appointment of teachers on ad-hoc basis is good news for us. With Bed mandatory for teaching jobs in the state, the demand for BEd courses has gone up but the BEd colleges don't have teachers."
Last year, for 100 BEd seats at Patna Training College, the university received around 10,000 applications.
