The high court on Wednesday directed a monitoring committee to inspect the Jai Prakash Narayan All India Institute of Medical Sciences (JPNAIIMS) site and submit a progress report of the construction of the hospital being built at Phulwarisharif.

A division bench of Justice Prakash Chandra Verma and Justice Aditya Kumar Trivedi passed the direction after the petitioner’s counsel, Brajesh Kumar, pointed out that work had come to a standstill after the court disposed of the petition on December 12.

“Following the directive, we visited the JPNAIIMS site and found work going on at a very tardy pace. At this rate, construction of the hospital will not be completed in two years. Plenty of work is incomplete,” said Kumar, also a monitoring committee member.

Kumar added that the work was being carried out in a single shift despite the court’s directive to the contractor to complete work in a 24x7 mode.

On Tuesday, Kumar pleaded before the bench to revive his petition for expeditious completion of JPNAIIMS. Kumar submitted that if the matter was not revived, the entire effort undertaken by the court in monitoring the case for the past seven-and-a-half years would go in vain.
