Gaya, May 5: Work at Magadh University remained paralysed today as vice-chancellor of the varsity Arvind Kumar remained absent from office following the Patna High Court judgment that quashed the appointment of two vice-chancellors, including that of Arvind.
Sources said the situation is such that everyone is waiting for the Bihar governor-cum-chancellor of universities Devanand Konwar, to return. He is at present out of the state. The chancellor is likely to return on May 8.
Sources said Arvind would file a letter’s petition application (LPA) at the double bench of the high court against the judgment that quashed the appointments.
All the officials of Magadh University are tight-lipped on the high court judgment. The cellphones of registrar, examination controller and the public relations officer were all found switched off. The deadlock at Magadh University has been continuing since the appointment of Arvind as VC on April 15,last year.
Recently, the same single bench of Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi that quashed the appointments had passed a judgment to seize financial power of the Magadh University VC.
However, when the vice-chancellor filed an LPA in the double bench of Patna High Court comprising Chief Justice Rekha M. Doshit and Justice Jyoti Sharan, the financial power was reinstated.
Magadh University Postgraduate Teachers’ Association president Sunil Kumar Singh told The Telegraph: “There is a vacuum on the campus as even the routine work has been hampered.”
Singh said: “The meeting of Magadh University syllabus committee scheduled for today was not held as the VC, who is also chairman of the committee, was not present.”
Singh said: “Postponement of the syllabus committee meeting is not the only isolated activity on Magadh University campus. Lots of other activities like examination board meeting and others have also come to a standstill here.” The VC heads different committees and bodies of the university.
Magadh University non-teaching Employees’ Association general secretary Amarnath Pathak said: “Several ongoing activities like promotion of 874 teachers and around 300 non-teaching staff will also be affected.”
