Bhagalpur, Jan. 14: Four schoolgirls made Bihar proud once again at the national level rural sports competitions at NTR Stadium in Gudivada, Andhra Pradesh.

Gloria Tudu, Sangita Kumari, Parvati Soren and Monika Murmu, all students of St Michael's School, Gokhla Mission in Pirpainty, hail from very poor families. Their parents are daily wage labourers at the bordering parts of Bhagalpur-Sahebganj district of Jharkhand.

The race was held on Tuesday.

This was the second medal for the state after Parvati Soren clinched a bronze in the 800m race on January 10. Gokhal Mission trainer Rajiv Lochan, who had accompanied the girls, told The Telegraph on Thursday that Parvati had completed the race in 23.14 seconds while the four girls completed the relay race in 52.55 seconds.

In 2014, Gloria recorded a timing of 13.17 seconds in the under-14 100m race, thus surpassing the previous record by 0.13 seconds at the national inter-district athletics meet, which was conducted by the Athletic Federation of India at Ranchi from January 17-19, 2014.

Sangita hails from Jagannathpur, Parvati from Mukharia tribal hamlet, Gloria from Pasraha in Pirpainty block of Bhagalpur and Monika doesn't even have a house. Lochan said: "Gokha mission has to be thanked for providing such opportunities to these children. They are all very talented."
