Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally started mobile garbage collection in New Capital circle on Tuesday.

The collection has been started in ward number 9 and 28.

Ward number 9 is an upscale area as the chief minister's official residence, the Governor House and those of the judges fall under it.

Localities such as Fraser Road, Exhibition Road, Station Road and SP Verma Road falls under ward number 28. The drive is yet to start in other localities in the circle, including Boring Road which comprises a good chunk of population.

Executive officer of the New Capital circle of the PMC, Shailesh Kumar, said the mobile garbage collection would be started in the rest of the wards soon.

"We started the mobile garbage collection in the two wards on Tuesday with the help of three vehicles and six labourers in each ward. Instructions have been issued to the labourers to continue the drive in both the wards. The city manager, sanitation inspector and other officials would be asked to carry out surprise inspections to check whether the drive is effective or not," said Shailesh.

The PMC has terminated the two agencies involved in the door-to-door garbage collection in May for failing to carry out the work properly. The PMC has started the process of hiring another agency to carry out the work.

The mobile garbage collection work has already been started in the other three circles - Bankipore, Kankerbagh and Patna City circle.

According to sources, the programme has been started in ward numbers 40, 41, 43 and 47 in Bankipore and ward number 31 in Kankerbagh, ward numbers 52, 53, 54, 66 and 67 in the Patna City circle.

Under the Chalant Kachra Sangra (mobile garbage collection) programme of the corporation, auto tippers and other vehicles of the corporation are visiting the lanes and collecting garbage from the households.

People manning the corporation's vehicles inform people about its arrival when it reaches for garbage collection by playing audio songs which has lyrics such as Kachra Lao Kachra Lao (bring garbage bring garbage).
