Gagan Narang’s bronze at the London Olympics may have kicked off India’s medal tally this year but Pradeep Jain has been collecting stamps on the Games for years.
“I have some rare stamps on Barcelona Olympics, 1992, Seoul Olympics, 1988, Los Angeles Olympics, 1984, Moscow Olympics, 1980 and Mexico City Olympics, 1968,” said the philatelist. Sports and stamp enthusiasts in Patna got a chance to see these stamps at an exhibition that began at the General Post Office on Tuesday.
Patna chief postmaster-general Kaveri Banerjee, who inaugurated the exhibition, said: “At our exhibition, we always include stamps that interest people. Sports are an important part of our lives and Olympics is probably the most important athletic event in the world. So, we have organised this exhibition to encourage sports.”
Stamps related to Olympics along with other philatelic mementoes are on display at the exhibition that will continue till August 12. Visitors to the exhibition on Tuesday were very impressed by the collections. One of them, an amateur philatelist Pradeep Kumar said: “This exhibition is of international standard. It is a rare chance for Patna residents to see the stamps. The collection ofPragya Kathuria is outstanding.”
