Patna: RJD MLAs created an uproar in the Legislative Council on Friday over a newspaper report that suggested the CBI might have filed the corruption case against RJD chief Lalu Prasad, in the railway hotels deal, without evidence.

RJD members, including Subodh Rai and others, entered the well of the House shouting slogans against the Centre and saying the report had proved Lalu was framed as part of a "political conspiracy".

The House witnessed heated arguments between public health and engineering department (PHED) minister Vinod Narayan Jha and RJD legislature party leader Rabri Devi.

Jha's contention before Legislative Council deputy chairman Haroon Rashid was that the matter was not an issue for discussion in the Council. But Rabri Devi said the media report vindicated their stand that Lalu ji and his supporters were being framed. However, with continued sloganeering, the deputy chairman adjourned proceedings till 2pm.

Before question hour, the Legislative Council saw noisy scenes when BJP MLC Rajnish Kumar raised the incident in Araria where an alleged video had surfaced showing some youths raising anti-national slogans after the victory of RJD candidate Sarfaraz Alam.

"During the RJD candidate's victory procession some RJD members were seen making anti-national remarks," Rajnish said. "The matter is serious as it concerns the country's safety and security." Other members from the treasury benches, such as the JDU's Neeraj Kumar and the BJP's Nawal Kishore Yadav, backed him.

But RJD MLC Subodh Kumar refuted said the youths who were raising the slogans were BJP members who had entered the victory procession to tarnish the RJD's image. JDU MLC Ghulam Rasool Baliyavi said the government should carry out a probe.

When question hour started, the House again witnessed noisy scenes with Opposition members alleging mass corruption in the Prime Minister Gramin Awas Yojana and alleging that rural works department officials and the minister were involved in corrupt practices.

"Officials of the rural work department are taking Rs 25,000 as bribe for construction of houses under the Yojana," RJD MLC Subodh Rai alleged. But rural works department minister Shravan Kumar refuted the allegations and said if the lawmaker had any proof of corruption he should bring it to the notice of the department and the House.
